  Turiya, or "the fourth," is  a Sanskrit term from Hindu philosophy (specifically the  Mandukya Upanishad ) describing a state of pure, non-dual consciousness that underlies and transcends the three common states: waking (jagrat), dreaming (swapna), and deep sleep (sushupti) .
